MY FRESH FACE

MY FRESH FACE

I am by no means a dermatologist. And I, by no means, feel like my skin is perfect. But baby it is a lot better than it was. Years ago I swore by Proactive but once I had my youngest child it seemed like everything changed. My acne left scares on my face and no matter what I washed with nothing seemed to help. I went through the phases of covering up what I could with makeup but I have never lived a life where I could do that everyday. Plus I’m no makeup artist. Matter fact concealer and BB cream was really all I was doing. Finally I decided to try a dermatologist. Years of creams and steroids had me stuck. But every time my insurance cut a partnership with a drug company my covered prescriptions changed. I once paid $110 for some prescribed face wash I couldn’t even pronounce. Once quarantine hit…that was enough. It was time for me to put my best face forward and create a manageable skin routine for me. I appreciate all the compliments I’ve gotten on my skin and I am finally at a place where I don’t shy away about having my actual face showing, no filter. I wouldn’t even consider wearing a ponytail before, but now…..I can’t wait for folks to see this face and dig this glow. LOL get in to it!

Build Your Regimen

There are normally 7 steps in your daily skin care routine

  1. Cleanser

  2. Toner

  3. Antioxidant Serum

  4. Eye Cream

  5. Spot Treatment

  6. Moisturizer

7. Sunscreen

Cleanser is the first line of defense against buildup on your skin. The right cleanser for your skin type is very important. For cleanser , I use turmeric and coconut milk soap from SolielEssentials. I found them on Instagram and love every single product. In the beginning I was just using their body scrubs and butters, then I decided to give the soap a shot. I was having an issue with hyperpigmentation from acne scaring. The turmeric and coconut milk blemish bar was made for just that. It has all natural products that I can actually pronounce and it left my skin actually feeling soft and clean the first time I used it. Natural products are great for the skin. If you are in need check SolielEssentials. If you find something you like I would suggest ordering 2. Everything is handmade and can sell out quickly.

soft towels

Using the same wash cloth everyday was irritating my skin. From the clean skin club

The need for toner is debatable from real skin fanatics. Some say there is no need, others can’t live without it. Toner is supposed to be used to quickly absorb and remove any excess dirt that remains on the skin. Other toners can also help to unclog pores and balance the skin. It is important if you do use a toner to use one that balances the pH of your skin and helps control your acne. I normally use Sunday Riley Mattifying Toner but I jumped on the Fenty wagon and now am in love with Fatwater. It doesn’t dry my skin and leaves it feeling moisturized and kind of juicy. The bottle is actually a such a great size I can’t even remember what I liked about Sunday Riley. Soliel offers all natural toners as well. The most important thing you can do when choosing a toner is paying attention to how your skin reacts.

I exfoliate my skin with these Cane & Austin pads

These pads are strong. If you have sensitive skin these are not for you.

Vitamin C is a booming ingredient right now in skin care. And I attribute my use of it in the brightening of my skin. Vitamin C provides antioxidants and promotes healthy rejuvenation to the skin cells. From Soliel Essentials I use their Vitamin C & Marula Oil cream along with Sunday Rileys C.E.O Glow. Both of these give me a lasting glow all day long. At night I trade the C.E.O Glow for the U.F.O. acne treatment oil. Both of these are considered as dry oil. Dry oil is very lightweight, non-greasy, quick absorbing oil that moisturizes the skin and promotes skin barrier repair.

Even though we are in quarantine sunscreen is still suggested and at this point mandatory with every exposure to sunlight. My go to sunscreen is Supergoop! I like their Glow Spray and Glow Screen. There is no white layer residue and really does leave a non heavy glow on the skin.

I made other changes as well. I drink more water than ever and have all but cut alcohol far below my pre Covid indulgence. And I take the most amazing supplemental vitamins by Ritual. All of these things combined and you have my face. This routine works for me. I am consistent and committed to putting my best face forward everyday. Take what you can add what you must but take a step. Show your best self to the world, even if it’s not opened all the way.
